Answers for first-time listers
Yes — creating a listing costs nothing. And right now, RentalHive is waiving all platform fees for any lister who lists an item before July 15th, 2026. That means you keep 100% of every rental during that period. After the waiver period, a small platform fee (a percentage of the rental total) applies only when a booking completes and payment is released. If nothing books, you pay nothing.
Payments are processed by Stripe. When a renter books your item, they pay upfront. After the rental period ends and the item is returned, the funds (minus the platform fee) are released to your connected Stripe account and deposited directly to your Canadian bank account — usually within 2 business days.
You can set a refundable security deposit on any listing. If damage occurs, you can make a claim against the deposit through the platform. We recommend photographing your item before and after each rental.
Yes. All booking requests require your approval before they're confirmed. You can review the renter's profile, message them with questions, and decline any request you're not comfortable with.
RentalHive does not currently provide equipment insurance. We recommend checking with your home or business insurer about coverage for peer-to-peer rentals. Many standard home policies cover occasional rentals — it's worth a quick call to confirm.
Yes. On your listing you can enable delivery, set a delivery radius (in km), and charge a delivery fee. Renters see this when booking and can choose pickup or delivery at checkout.
